Characteristics: Gammarus pulex are from the order of crustaceans. They are very abundant inhabitants of the intertidal zone of the oceans. They live under stones, or directly on the moist parts of the coasts. They feed mostly on detritus - decomposing organic matter. During the day they hide in dark parts of the bottom and are active only at night, when they emerge from their hiding places. At this time they are caught with trawl nets and are further used in various preparations as food for aquarium and terrarium animals.
After drying, the soft part of the body of marine gammarus is almost lost, due to the high water content and remains inside the shell. The color of the surface of the bodies is red-orange and has a typical "marine" smell.
Uses: Dried Gammarus is an excellent supplement to the natural food for ornamental fish. It is especially well consumed by water turtles.
Storage and consumption: Store dried Gammarus in well-sealed PVC containers, preferably in a dry and cool place, up to about 18 ° C. If you get them wet, they will mold.
